"andBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge" is situated in the spectacular landscape of the world renowned Ngorongoro Crater.
Ngorongoro Crater it forms part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) within the Serengeti ecosystem and the Crater itself is home to more than 25 000 large mammals. Once a large volcano that later collapsed, it is now the largest intact caldera in the world.The Ngorongoro Crater in northern Tanzania is now the largest intact caldera in the world. Some maintain that, before it erupted, it would have been higher than Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa.
Today, long since having collapsed and eroded, it is an extensive highland area with the famous 600m (2 000ft) deep crater as its focal point.The Crater floor has abundant water, which provides excellent grazing for resident herbivores, while the Crater walls are covered in lush vegetation, forming excellent protection for the large numbers of game.

In this place of dramatic contrasts, where Versailles meets Maasai, anything is possible and the natural luxury of the breathtakingly beautiful setting ensures the dramatic interior of your suite blends perfectly with its stilted thatch architecture.
Divided into three camps, 30 stilted suites with banana leaf ceilings and grass roofs provide an intimate and exclusive Crater experience. Each camp has its own sitting and dining areas, with private butlers who provide warm, personal service. Brocade sofas and Persian rugs invite you to re-live the day’s experiences around a roaring fire.
The domed dining room, where sparkling silver and crystal vie for attention with the huge windows and awe-inspiring views.

The 80 rooms include twin rooms, double rooms (with one double bed), one Presidential suite and three Junior suites. There are also interconnecting rooms, specially designed for families.
The Presidential suite has been host to world renowned personalities who have enjoyed the magical experience of wildlife from the top location that Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge enjoys, being the first Lodge built on the Ngorongoro Crater.


Everything is chosen to delight the imagination and enhance the spectacular views of the magnificent surroundings. An eclectic blend of elegant teak panelling, Victorian furnishings and whimsical African touches creates a sumptuous atmosphere that is as elegant and unique as the Crater itself.

Useful travel tips

Summer is from October to March and winter is from April to September. It can be cold on the Crater rim from May to September and we suggest guests dress in layers for game drives, as temperatures heat up towards midday.

Rain occurs predominantly in November and from April to May. Annual rainfall is approximately 700mm / 27” on the Crater floor and 1 500mm / 59” on the Crater rim.

Temperatures range from a minimum of approximately 8˚C / 42˚F to a maximum of approximately 30˚C / 86˚F.

Best time to travel
Game viewing is excellent year-round.

The lodge is situated in a malaria area and necessary precautions should be taken.

Ngorongoro Crater Airstrip is registered; coordinates are S03 12 31 and E035 28.13’.

US dollar bills printed between 1996 and 1999 are not accepted in Kenya or Tanzania, as there was a large amount of illegal processing of dollar bills in East Africa during that time.
