    One of the most beautiful waterfalls in Japan, after Kegon Falls and Nachi Falls, Fukuroda Falls is located in Ibaraki Prefecture near the northern city of Daigo at just two hours’ drive from the capital of Mito. The waterfall is on The Taki River and it has his source spring above de falls.

     After it flows through the falls, it joins Kuji River. The local people claim that you have to come to see the fall in all four seasons; just like that you will be able to admire its entire beauty. Delicate flowers surround it in the spring, a thick, green and lovely foliage frame the waterfall during the summer; but the real magic happens in autumn, when red, orange and brown leaves add some contrast, making your trip unforgettable. In the winter, you can admire a graceful layer of glass that will delight your soul. So, it’s not just the waterfall that impress, but the environment too.
The mountain wears a crown of creeks and sparkling rivers, painted with bright, vivid colors. You really get the feeling that you admire a painting, not a piece of nature.

The waterfall is also called “The Four-Section Fall” because the water cascades fall a huge rock cliff in four sections.
    Early in the morning, on the streets are already dozens of tourists and local vendors who e selling local delicatessen, the parking lot is pretty full and the line-up to get into the viewing area for the Fukuroda Falls is very thick, so arm yourself with a lot of patience. You have to pay a fee in order to get into the viewing area. The landscape is absolutely lovely; it will charge your heart with happiness and joy.
An elevator will take you to the top (44 meters above) where you will be able to see the surrounding countryside. A very popular spot is a short suspension bridge, giving different views of the area, including the side of the mountain where the waterfall is formed. The view is absolutely breath taking. You can even hear the sound of the water splashing on the rocks – it’s like music.

Travel Tips

    You have to pay 300 (2.1 USD) yen in order to access the observation deck. There are many gift shops, restaurants, parking lots so you have to bring only the essentials with you. Don’t forget your Camera, but if you do, there are also many professional photographers – in exchange for a couple of yen, you will have your dream photo immediately.

 


How to get there
    From Mito Station use the JR Suigun Line to Fukuroda Station – it takes 1 hour and 10 minutes. Then take the bus to Fukurodanotak – it takes 15 minutes.
Opening hours: 8:00-18:00 (May to October) and 9:00-17:00 (November to April)
