In this new machine age we live in, we love to make our lives easier with the aid of smart, stylish toys. We’ve come to rely on them so much that few of us could barely stand the thought of primitive living, and let’s face it, we all love to brag about our latest purchase. But how awesome would it be if some of them were smaller, or easier to carry around? It seems like we’re not far from that.

Technology may be making everyday objects like the watch or the glasses more and more smarter, but it also enables us to have more and more compact tools. Our tiny smartphones nowadays have more power than the massive computers from just decades ago, so why can’t we, let’s say, have pocket-size printers and scanners? While some are already on the market and some are still in concept phase, these latest gimmicks in portable technology that will leave you drooling and wanting to start saving money.

Portable Printers and Scanners
With all the smartphones, tablets and apps, our offices became increasingly mobile, and we can now work basically anywhere. But what about scanners and printers? Designers Jayeong Yoon & Seulki Kim launched a concept 2-in-1 portable scanner and printer. Small enough to be handheld, this unique device allows you to directly scan and paste any document, with no need for a photocopier or printer.
Having only two buttons, this little one takes copy & paste to a whole new level. ScanU is another similar gadget, also handheld, but more complex, coming from designer Ashish Chaudhary. A flexible OLED screen rolls up inside the scanner when it is not used, and all you need to do to scan a document is to pull it out and apply it on it – the light sensor built within the screen will take care of everything. ScanU is equipped with a flash drive that stores data during scanning, and its battery is charged via USB.
But enough with the concepts, here is one you can actually get your hands on: the Magic Wand Portable Scanner from VuPoint Solutions is extremely practical for scanning documents and books on the go, and small enough to be carried around easily. It can scan documents of up to A4 size in maximum 900 dpi resolution, and scanned images can be saved in either PDF or JPEG format. The Magic Wand works with a microSD card for storage. A similar “magic wand” is the Ion Copy Cat, which can scan up to 600 DPI and save images onto microSD cards up to 32GB in size.
Although not yet available on the market, the Mini Mobile Robotic Printer is another great concept, and its creators had massive success with their crowdfunding campaign, so it seems like we could soon buy it. Developed by ZUtA Labs, the tiny printer can easily be connected to laptops and mobile devices. It works with a recheargeable battery and an on/off switch, and its inkjet can print up to one thousand pages, with no paper size limit.

USB Portable Paper Shredder
Despite its name, the USB Portable Paper Shredder can also be powered with AA batteries. The hand device can shred up to five sheets of A6 paper at once. Larger sized documents can go through it as well, they just need to be folded.

Pocket Projectors
Pocket projectors are highly compact projection devices designed for business purposes, meetings, personal use but the main idea is to be as portable as possibele in order to meet the „today” demand in terms of flexibility and mobility.
They can vary from size and form, specs, but main caracteristics are :
-    Easy to carry
-    Light weight
-    Connectivity
-    Build in accumulator
-    High contrast
-    Afortable

One example is the iPower Pro is literally pocket-size, and it can project any content from a phone, from streaming videos and photo galleries to PowerPoint presentations. The best part? It also charges the phone whenever connected. Weighing no more than one hundred grams, the iPower has a projection screen of up to 60 inches, its native resolution is 640x360 and it can project in 16:9 aspect ratio. However, its battery life is no longer than 2 hours.
Other notable 2014 pocket projectors are coming from companies like:  AAXA P4-X Pico Projector (impressive brightness for device size – pcmag.com - ), 3M Pocket Projector MP160, Acer C120 Projector (Drawing power straight from a computer via USB connection) or Philips PicoPix PPX3410,  and offer different attractive solutions in terms of connectivity, native resolution display, internal sound, etc. (full review - http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2372437,00.asp)

The stylishly designed accessory can do much more than project, with gesture-controlled features like making calls, taking pictures or browsing through content, all using the built-in projector instead of a display.
More like a scene from Minority report” – Tom Cruise movie.
Although we are still years away from it, it looks like a fascinating tool – Google Glass, watch out!

Portable Heat and Ice
Going for a trip out in the wild? Worried that the wind will ruin your barbecue? Here’s a quirky concept that will make it a thing of the past.
The WrapStove is a fully flexible device that, as the name suggests, simply wraps around pots and pans to heat them up. It is equipped with small magnets that hold it in place around the vessel, and the touchscreen allows you to set the desired temperature. When you don’t use it, you can curl it up to save luggage space.
Coming from the same manufacturer Yanko Design, here’s another concept that’s a bit bigger, but is doesn’t require any pots. With its heat-resistant shell, The Vertigo Self-Heating Food and Beverage Container is pretty much a hiking microwave. Once your food or drink is in the container, a sensor-triggered LED will let you know when it reaches the desired temperature.
The Portable Mini Fridge Cooler and Warmer however is already on the market – the fridge is small enough to be carried around in a car, and it was designed to feed on either a car’s cigarette lighter or a normal plug, depending on your needs. It also features a hot and cold switch, so it also doubles as a warmer, also being able to keep warm drinks warm for a long time.
How about ice? Imagine hosting a party and never running out on ice cubes. NewAir AI-100R Ice Maker can produce up to 14 kilograms of ice cubes, and it only takes 6 to 15 minutes of waiting for a new batch. While it’s portable enough for picnics, the Ice Maker can also sit around in your kitchen for home use.
